The WPL 2027 auction in Kochi on 28 October 2026 was a small, sharp mini-auction, and one name dominated it. Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux was the most expensive player, joining UP Warriorz for ₹1.10 crore, the only bid to cross the ₹1 crore mark. In total, 25 players were sold across the five Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchises for roughly ₹6.25 crore, filling 25 of the 27 vacant squad slots. Delhi Capitals paid ₹75 lakh for Kiran Navgire, the costliest Indian signing, while Chamari Athapaththu and Sophia Dunkley went unsold. Here is the full list of prices, team-wise signings and what it all means for the season starting in January.

Note: figures are compiled from published auction reports (Business Standard, Khel Now, Yahoo Sports, Wisden, Outlook India and Open). The Cricbuzz auction tracker could not be opened for this article, so no number below is taken from it directly. Please check the Cricbuzz completed auction page for the official record.

WPL 2027 Auction Highlights

  • Date and venue: 28 October 2026, Kochi.
  • Most expensive player: Sophie Molineux (Australia), ₹1.10 crore, UP Warriorz (base price ₹50 lakh).
  • Most expensive Indian: Kiran Navgire, ₹75 lakh, Delhi Capitals (base price ₹40 lakh).
  • Players sold: 25 (18 Indian, 7 overseas), for about ₹6.25 crore in total. This total is our sum of the individual prices.
  • Players unsold: Reports differ on the exact count. Two widely used lists name 28 unsold players, and some outlets list more names (see the unsold section).
  • Biggest spender: UP Warriorz, ₹2.60 crore on eight players, from the biggest pre-auction purse of ₹3.75 crore.
  • Season window: 14 January to 7 February 2027, as announced by the BCCI.

Who Was the Most Expensive Player in the WPL 2027 Auction?

Sophie Molineux. The Australian left-arm spinning all-rounder started at ₹50 lakh and more than doubled that, going to UP Warriorz for ₹1.10 crore after a contest with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the franchise she played for previously. Business Standard reported that she missed the 2026 season with a hip injury and was released by RCB before the auction.

Why does UP Warriorz want her? Their auction was clearly built around all-round depth, and Molineux offers left-arm spin plus lower-order batting. Whether she regains full fitness and rhythm is the open question, and no price tag guarantees that. Her fee was also a large share of what UP Warriorz had to spend, which explains why they bought mostly base-price players afterwards.

WPL 2027 Auction – Team-Wise Players List

Every table below shows only auction signings. Retained players are not included. Remaining purses are our own arithmetic (pre-auction purse minus the sum of final prices), because no outlet we checked published official balances.

UP Warriorz

Player Role Nationality Price
Sophie Molineux All-rounder Australia ₹1.10 crore
Grace Harris All-rounder Australia ₹30 lakh
Sneh Rana All-rounder India ₹30 lakh
Sushma Verma Wicketkeeper-batter India ₹30 lakh
Asha Sobhana Joy Bowler India ₹30 lakh
Kathryn Bryce All-rounder Scotland ₹10 lakh
Manali Dakshini All-rounder India ₹10 lakh
Sahana Pawar All-rounder India ₹10 lakh

Eight signings for ₹2.60 crore, leaving about ₹1.15 crore by our calculation. Eight slots were open, so every one was filled. Harris returns to a franchise she played for between 2023 and 2025, per Open magazine. Retained core, according to Outlook India: Meg Lanning (captain), Deepti Sharma, Sophie Ecclestone, Phoebe Litchfield, Harleen Deol, Kranti Gaud and others. Benefit: plenty of all-round options and a wicketkeeper in Verma. Risk: a heavy reliance on cheap all-rounders, and Molineux’s fitness after her injury.

Mumbai Indians Women

Player Role Nationality Price
Shweta Sehrawat Batter India ₹20 lakh
Disha Kasat Batter India ₹10 lakh
Latika Inamdar Wicketkeeper-batter India ₹10 lakh
Bharti Rawal Bowler India ₹10 lakh
Sanika Chalke Batter India ₹10 lakh
Akshita Bhagat All-rounder India ₹10 lakh

Six Indian players for ₹70 lakh from a ₹90 lakh purse, leaving about ₹20 lakh. Mumbai had no overseas slot open, so this was purely an Indian-depth exercise. Shweta Sehrawat, who cost the most, had been released by UP Warriorz. Benefit: cover for a star-heavy squad. Risk: most of these are untested at WPL level, so they are insurance rather than first-choice picks. (Some outlets listed only five MI signings; Business Standard, Khel Now and Wisden confirm six.)

Delhi Capitals Women

Player Role Nationality Price
Kiran Navgire Batter India ₹75 lakh
Kirstie Gordon Bowler Scotland ₹10 lakh
Kashvi Kandikuppa (listed as Uma Kashvi by some outlets) All-rounder India ₹10 lakh
Nazma Khan All-rounder India ₹10 lakh

Four players for ₹1.05 crore, about ₹5 lakh left, with one of five slots unfilled. Navgire, a former UP Warriorz batter, was won after a contest with Mumbai Indians, according to Open magazine. Benefit: power-hitting in the middle order, plus a left-arm spin option in Gordon. Risk: with almost no purse left, depth beyond the first XI is thin.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women

Player Role Nationality Price
Jess Jonassen All-rounder Australia ₹40 lakh
Chloe Tryon All-rounder South Africa ₹30 lakh
Tejal Hasabnis Batter India ₹30 lakh
Vrinda Dinesh Batter India ₹10 lakh

Four players for ₹1.10 crore, about ₹5 lakh left, one of five slots unfilled. RCB lost Molineux in the bidding but added two experienced overseas all-rounders. Benefit: Jonassen and Tryon are seasoned T20 players. Risk: RCB did not land a marquee name, so they rely heavily on their retained core.

Gujarat Giants

Player Role Nationality Price
G Kamalini Batter India ₹40 lakh
Orla Prendergast All-rounder Ireland ₹30 lakh
Samaira Raghav All-rounder India ₹10 lakh

Three players for ₹80 lakh, about ₹45 lakh left. Kamalini, previously with Mumbai Indians, was reported to have drawn no rival bid. Benefit: a young Indian batter and a useful overseas all-rounder. Risk: with only three slots, there is little room to rotate if form dips.

WPL 2027 Auction – Unsold Players List

Business Standard named at least 15 notable unsold players, while Yahoo Sports and NewsX list 28. We show the 28-name list below, with base prices from Yahoo Sports. Some outlets also list further names such as Saika Ishaque, Taniya Bhatia, Nuzhat Parween and Sarah Bryce. Cricbuzz has the official breakdown.

Samantha Bates (Australia) Bowler ₹10 lakh Unsold
Shanu Sen Bowler ₹10 lakh Unsold

Reema Ekka Bowler ₹10 lakh Unsold
Eddla Srujana Bowler ₹10 lakh Unsold
Bhavika Ahire Wicketkeeper-batter ₹10 lakh Unsold
Shivani Singh Wicketkeeper-batter ₹10 lakh Unsold

Going unsold is not a verdict on ability. With only 27 slots, tight purses (Mumbai had ₹90 lakh for six places, for instance), overseas limits and existing squad needs, good players inevitably miss out. We do not speculate on why any franchise passed on a particular player.

Biggest Surprises of the WPL 2027 Auction

  • Only three players sold above base price. Molineux (₹50 lakh to ₹1.10 crore), Navgire (₹40 lakh to ₹75 lakh) and Sehrawat (₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh). The other 22 sales were at base price.
  • Dunkley and Athapaththu went unsold. Both are established T20 names; Athapaththu is Sri Lanka’s captain, according to Open.
  • Familiar faces switched teams. Harris returned to UP Warriorz; Navgire moved from UP Warriorz to Delhi; Kamalini left Mumbai for Gujarat; Molineux was lost by RCB.
  • All-rounders dominated. Khel Now reports 13 of the 25 signings were all-rounders.

Which WPL Team Had the Best Auction Strategy? (Editorial Analysis)

This section is opinion, not an official ranking. Spending alone does not decide it, and results will depend on form, fitness and combinations.

UP Warriorz made the most visible changes, with the biggest purse and eight signings that add all-round balance, though their bet on Molineux’s fitness is the biggest single risk. Delhi Capitals addressed a specific middle-order need with Navgire but have almost no money left. Royal Challengers Bengaluru picked up experience in Jonassen and Tryon at fair prices. Gujarat Giants spent sensibly on three players, adding young Indian talent. Mumbai Indians had the least to spend and focused on Indian bench strength, which is useful but unlikely to change their first XI.

How the WPL 2027 Auction Could Affect the Upcoming Season

These are expectations, not facts. Most signings are depth picks, so the real competition will be for the last one or two places in each XI. Molineux and Navgire are the likeliest to start straight away. UP Warriorz now have several all-rounders for the overseas slots, which makes selection a talking point. Meanwhile, players like Kamalini and Sehrawat get a chance to prove themselves in a fast tournament running from 14 January to 7 February 2027.
